OMRON Corporation announced today that it has been rated "A-" in the two categories of Climate Change and Water Security by the CDP^*1, an international non-profit organization that runs a global environmental disclosure system, for its outstanding leadership in environmental initiatives and disclosure transparency.

Each year, the CDP surveys companies on climate change, deforestation, and water security, scores them in terms of how effectively they respond to such challenges on a scale of A to D-, and releases the findings of these surveys in its annual reports. This year, the CDP surveyed about 12,000 companies globally. OMRON has been rated "A-" for "Climate Change" for the third consecutive year and for "Water Security" for the second consecutive year.

Based on the philosophy that "Business should create value for society through its key practices," OMRON has dedicated itself "to improving lives and contributing to a better society through our businesses" since its foundation. In the field of the environment, in the belief that we can contribute to a better future by creating a sustainable society, we established and implemented the "Green OMRON 2020" vision for the future of the environment.

To combat climate change, in July 2018, we set OMRON Carbon Zero as a new target aiming to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050, thus advancing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from our business activities. In fiscal 2020, we were able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to fiscal 2016 as we continued to save energy and introduce renewable energy, and a new photovoltaic power generation system, which was installed at each site in fiscal 2019, went into full-scale operation. In February 2019, OMRON declared its support for the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD^*2), thus disclosing strategies, scenario analysis, and other related information.

To enhance water security, we have been working toward a self-set goal for fiscal 2020: "reducing water consumption at all our production sites across the globe by 6% compared to fiscal 2015." In fiscal 2020, water withdrawals at those sites were reduced by 25.1% from fiscal 2015 thanks to reduction efforts by each production site. At the same time, we determined which sites were running a high water risk to voluntarily conserve water resources there and ensure business continuity.

It is our understanding that the "A-" rating has been given to OMRON in recognition of our environmental goals and the dedicated efforts to achieve them.

The CDP is a non-profit organization (NPO) founded in the U.K. in 2000. Backed by investors the world over, it conducts surveys on climate change and water resources management initiatives at private companies, and then analyzes and releases the findings of these surveys to the public.
