Employee Engagement

VOICE: Our employee engagement survey

Since fiscal 2016, the OMRON management team has conducted the VOICE engagement survey to listen to honest feedback from all employees globally. Our aim here is to create environments in which each employee can maximize their passion and abilities, striving to put OMRON principles into practice. This initiative confirms the level of engagement of each employee to implement OMRON principles. At the same time, OMRON management understands, identifies, and takes corrective action for issues related to the practice of OMRON principles from the perspective of each employee, who represents our main source of value.

The previous survey in fiscal 2022 was our fifth, covering 20,603 global employees (91% response rate) and collecting 38,503 comments (employee feedback). Based on this data and feedback from employees, the management team and leaders in each workplace work to solve company-wide issues (operational excellence, performance management) and specific issues toward creating better environments.

■Operational excellence
  • Standardize operations and digitize processes through corporate systems reform (global human resources information management system and travel expense reimbursement/indirect materials purchasing system)
  • Expand options for flexible work styles (telecommuting, etc.) and use IT tools more effectively for better communication
  • Review operational decisions and work processes at each worksite
■Performance management
  • Use 360-degree feedback for managers (FY2023: managers of global organizations) to identify room for improvement and encourage leadership development of them.
  • Use a global human resources information management system to accelerate the placement of the right people in the right locations, maximizing motivation and talent development; introduce a job-based personnel evaluation system in Japan
  • Conduct initiatives to improve performance management at each work site (improve goal-setting interview methods, training to enhance feedback, 1-on-1 meetings, etc.)

A total of 570 improvement measures have been formulated across OMRON on a global basis, and such initiatives are being implemented actively. Given survey response rates and the number of improvements adopted across our organizations, we conclude that the VOICE program since 2016 has taken deep root in OMRON and has become a self-driven initiative.

We will continue the VOICE initiative to encourage solutions to organizational issues, beginning with employee dialogues. OMRON will accelerate efforts to realize "a company where every employee can work with vitality" on a global basis.
