Since our founding, OMRON has grown by creating social value and contributing to the development of society through our businesses. The driving force behind our growth has been Our Mission, to improve lives and contribute to a better society. This mission embodies the spirit of our company as a public institution, our ambition to be a pioneer in creating innovation, and our desire to build a better society. The OMRON Principles echo and carry forward this spirit. For OMRON, sustainability is nothing more or less than putting the OMRON Principles into practice.
We began executing our long-term vision, Shaping the Future 2030 (SF2030) in April 2022. Many social issues will emerge as social structures and values change in the future. In response, OMRON identified three areas where we can make the most of our strengths in automation, customer assets, and business assets to have a significant impact on society: (1) Achieving carbon neutrality; (2) Realizing a digital society; and (3) Extending healthy life expectancy. At the same time, we identified material sustainable issues and incorporated them for the first time into our long-term vision, set long-term targets for the year 2030, and defined sustainability targets in our medium-term management plan. Among these material issues, we believe environmental issues, including climate change, and human rights issues in the value chain are of urgent importance. These will be our top priorities to address as the Group.
In terms of environmental issues, we aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our value chain and establish a resource recycling model. In addition, we strive to gain further competitive advantage by coexisting in harmony with biodiversity and other aspects of nature. In terms of human rights, we are forming a culture and structure in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, refusing to tolerate or allow human rights violations by exerting our influence throughout the value chain.
To solve these material issues and achieve all the targets of SF2030, every employee at OMRON must take responsibility to transform themselves, improve their ability to create value, and solve social issues. We will engage in diversity and inclusion and other human capital management to create environments in which employees think their own creative ways to take on the challenge of solving as many social issues as possible.
Going forward, OMRON will continue to engage in responsible dialogue with all of our stakeholders, solve social issues through our businesses, and achieve sustainable growth.
