OMRON Corporation (HQ: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto; President and CEO: Yoshihito Yamada) has declared its participation in the Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) and its endorsement of JCI's message calling for an ambitious 2030 target for Japan to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and expand renewable energy deployment.

Established in 2018, JCI is a network committed to fostering climate actions in Japan. Being aware of the critical importance of climate initiatives for us to realize a sustainable society and sound business growth, OMRON constantly monitors and assesses relevant risks and opportunities and their implications. By declaring our endorsement of JCI, we will make concerted efforts to help solve the global issue of climate change as we strive to contribute to achieving the targets laid out in JCI's message, namely, "going beyond 45% to aim higher for an emission reduction by 2030" and "raising the 2030 renewable energy target to 40-50%" in Japan.

Regarding OMRON's participation in JCI, Senior General Manager Yue Liu of the Sustainability Office commented:
"Climate change and other environmental issues concern the global environment and the entire scope of human economic activities. As such, no single company or country can hope to solve them in isolation, and inter-company and -regional cooperation is essential. To achieve a carbon-neutral society, we believe that the public expects us to contribute roughly two things: First, creating innovations that facilitate the transformation into a carbon-neutral society; and second, striving to solve social issues through business activities by understanding the essence of our purpose to determine what value we can offer to our stakeholders. OMRON's Initiatives for Climate Change

Since OMRON’s foundation, we have been dedicated to "contributing to the creation of a better society through our business," true to our belief that "a business should create value for society through its key practices." In environmental fields, we believe that creating an environmentally sustainable society will improve lives and contribute to a better society. With this in mind, we have been working toward a self-set goal in accordance with our Environmental Vision, Green OMRON 2020.

To address the issue of climate change, in July 2018, we set goals under our OMRON Carbon Zero project, which aims to eliminate GHG emissions by 2050, and we have been reducing emissions from our business activities accordingly. In fiscal 2019, we slashed GHG emissions by 34% versus fiscal 2016 by promoting energy conservation measures at each site and installing a new PV inverter system, as well as continuing to procure renewable energy-derived electricity in Japan since fiscal 2018. In February 2019, we declared our support for the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures^*1 (TCFD) and have since conducted information disclosure and scenario analysis using the TCFD framework in an effort to develop products and services that help reduce GHG emissions.
