The corporate venture capital of OMRON Corporation (HQ: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto. President and CEO: Yoshihito Yamada), OMRON VENTURES CO., LTD. (HQ: Minato-ku, Tokyo. President and CEO : Tomoko Inoue; hereinafter, “OVC”), announced today that it had its OVC II Investment Limited Partnership (hereinafter, “OVC 2nd Fund”) certified by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as an investment business facilitating the utilization of external management resources. With this, OVC 2nd Fund became the first to be certified by METI as an exception to the regulations on overseas investment concerning limited partnership (LPS) (hereinafter, “this Exception”).

In the Limited Partnership (LPS) Act for Investment (hereinafter, the “LPS Act”), whose purpose is to make high-risk investments in small and medium-sized enterprises in Japan, METI previously stipulated that LPSs may allocate less than 50% of their portfolio in securities issued by foreign enterprises.
Now that cross-border open innovation has become the norm, however, METI has established a system that recognizes investment business plans designed to facilitate the utilization of external management resources in an effort to further expedite open innovation on a global scale and help Japanese businesses hone their international competitiveness.
With the OVC 2nd Fund being recognized for this Exception, OMRON VENTURES will accelerate its efforts to pursue the creation of new value for solving social issues through its investment in startups in Japan and beyond, while at the same time working to expedite global open innovation.
