OMRON SINIC X to Present Latest Research Findings at UIST 2025, Top-tier Conference in the Field of Human-Computer Interaction

OMRON SINIC X Corporation (HQ: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Masaki Suwa, hereinafter "OSX") will present the latest research findings at the ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology (hereinafter "UIST 2025").

UIST 2025 is one of the top-tier international conferences in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and user interface technologies. The conference will be held from September 28 to October 1, 2025, in Busan, Korea, (local time). This year, 210 out of 947 submissions were accepted, resulting in an acceptance rate of approximately 22%.

The research papers to be presented by OSX are as follows:

笆Cooperative Design Optimization through Natural Language Interaction

Research Introduction Creating a great app or service requires exploring and identifying what kind of design is easy to use and effective. However, in practice, designers face a large number of settings (parameters) and their combinations, making it extremely difficult to find the optimal design.
To address this, we developed a new method that allows designers to work with AI using natural language to optimize design. For example, by simply asking something like "Make it easier to find restaurants on the map," the AI suggests suitable parameter values and explains why. Designers can then combine these suggestions with their own intuition and ideas to reach better designs more efficiently.
Compared to conventional methods where the AI makes all decisions automatically, our approach allows users to incorporate their intentions more flexibly and provides higher user agency. Experiments also showed that it reduces cognitive load, making it easier and less stressful to use.
In this study, we focused on web application design. But this method can be applied to a wide range of other domains, such as game UI, robot interfaces, and haptic device tuning, in the future.
