Temasek Polytechnic and OMRON Electronics Singapore Launch a PoC Lab & Training Hub
March 11, 2024
Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and OMRON Electronics Singapore recently announced the official opening of the TP-OMRON Proof-of-Concept (POC) Lab & Training Hub. This collaborative venture, supported by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), aims to contribute towards the transformation of skills training in the industrial automation and electronic components sectors.
With this venture, OMRON strives to add value to Singapore’s manufacturing sector with its advanced capabilities in the industrial automation domain. Local enterprises and manufacturers can now utilize OMRON's cutting-edge technology, along with contributions from other solution partners, for multidisciplinary experiential skills training and collaborative projects. These projects encompass autonomous and vision-assisted robotics, augmented reality, practical AI, and IoT Dashboard in practice, to name just a few.
The POC Lab enables businesses to conduct POC activities in
robotics, 3D vision, intelligent control systems, and advanced analytics. This
provides them with the confidence needed before deploying automation solutions
on their manufacturing shop floors.
In collaboration with TP, OMRON has curated and conducted
six Continuous Education Training (CET) courses and a Function Safety
Masterclass course. These training courses aim to support enterprise
transformations through practical upskilling and re-skilling initiatives and
have already benefited over 500 applicants from 45 companies. Additionally,
more than 30 direct POC engagements have been executed with enterprises,
resulting in 20 successful implementations across segments/industries like
Digital, Logistics, Food and Beverage, etc. Mentorship support grants are also
provided to offset the costs required for POC projects to help enterprises
in their business transformation journeys.
Looking ahead to 2024, OMRON and TP plan to launch a new
Robotic Masterclass. This program will include an overseas learning journey to
OMRON’s China Automation Centre, and the development of emerging CET courses.
The goal is to train over 200 individuals and facilitate 20 POC collaborations,
fostering innovation and problem-solving within the local enterprise community.
Through this collaboration, the POC Lab & Training Hub
ensure that skill upgrading and knowledge enhancement, coupled with mentorship,
align with evolving economic demands to meet future skills requirements and
contribute to the continued success and growth of Singapore's industrial
landscape.
