Making Japan Safe and Secure -Creation of new value of Traffic Signals-
There are currently 210,000 traffic lights in operation in Japan. However, about two-thirds of the traffic lights are not connected to traffic control centers, and their operational status cannot be monitored remotely. Therefore, when a power failure occurs due to a disaster or other reason, it takes time to restore the traffic signals because they need to be checked on-site, and there is a risk that a traffic accident could be caused during this time. The team took on the challenge of visualizing the operational status of traffic signals with the aim of realizing the early restoration of traffic signals in the event of a power failure and ensuring people's safety. More than half a century ago, OMRON developed the world's first electronic automatic traffic lights. The challenge to realize the safe and secure road traffic that our predecessors aimed for continues to evolve.
