Station operations system development

INTERVIEW 01

Adding attractive features to ticket vending machines, making them more convenient.

I approached my job search with the desire to “make the world better through software development.” I didn’t narrow myself to any specific industry when choosing companies, but when I attended the Omron Group’s information session, I resonated with OMRON DIGITAL’s venture spirit, open culture, and willingness to take on challenges. I felt, “At this company, I can fulfill my aspirations!”—and that became the deciding factor in joining.

After joining, I was assigned to my current department and became involved in ticket vending machine development. Ticket vending machines have continued to evolve in line with social trends and technological progress, adding functions such as credit card payment and simplifying operations using IC cards. I am responsible for designing the interface and related functions that integrate the hardware used for PIN entry into the control software during credit card transactions. My work involves identifying the processes and functions required for integration into ticket vending machines, consulting on specifications with SEs, as well as design and debugging. Seeing customers actually use ticket vending machines I helped develop makes me genuinely happy.

INTERVIEW 02

Aiming to become an engineer who can make proposals from a technical perspective.

Ticket vending machines are used by people of all generations. Because the target audience is so broad, I constantly think about how to make them “easy to understand and use for everyone.” To create intuitive user interfaces, we incorporate ideas such as adding animations to the LCD screen, or flashing the next button or panel that should be pressed. Since client requirements for interfaces often differ significantly, I keep in mind the need to design and develop features flexibly depending on the situation.

When I first joined, I struggled because I lacked knowledge about ticket vending machine transactions, such as operator functions and maintenance functions. Now, through development experience, I have accumulated knowledge and skills, and gradually the scope of work I am entrusted with has expanded. Eventually, I want to become a software engineer who can make proposals. For now, I am working to deepen my understanding of design and design processes. My goal is to become an engineer who can make effective, technically sound proposals, and I am working hard toward that every day.

INTERVIEW 03

Message to those currently job hunting

OMRON DIGITAL is a company that gives you many opportunities if you express what you want to try. Because of its open culture, even young employees can share their opinions easily. For people who already have clear goals, it is an environment where you can present yourself effectively. For those who may not yet know what they want to do, I encourage you to use job hunting as a chance to reflect on what you like and why. That reflection will surely prove useful one day when you are working as a professional.
