May 8, 2015

OMRON Corporation (Headquarters: Kyoto City Japan, President & CEO Yoshihito Yamada) announced that re-defining OMRON Principles, today. OMRON aims to improve continuously its corporate value and strengthen its administration through the corporate principles.

In 1959, OMRON's founder, Kazuma Tateishi, established OMRON's corporate motto: "To improve lives and contribute to a better society." Serving as its underlying management philosophy that time, OMRON has produced many global innovations and contributed to social development and improved people's lives through the business. Continuing in the spirit of this motto, OMRON established corporate principles newly as "A business should create value for society." in 2006 and then incorporated this principle into its administration. In the passionate spirit of the motto passed down since the company's founding, OMRON has established a long-term strategy every 10 years in order to achieve its continuing mission to address societal issues, and continually strives to improve corporate value over the long-term. Announced in 2011, "Value Generation 2020" (abbreviated below as "VG2020") is the third long-term strategy.

OMRON is accelerating the globalization through its VG2020 strategy and aims to grow business through the resolution of various societal issues around the world. To achieve this, OMRON has concluded that it is critical to reconfirm the spirit of the motto in order to better act in accord with its principles. OMRON feels that having all employees worldwide acting out the principles will become the driving and unifying force that aids in even further business grown and development. By adopting a common wording of that vision worldwide, OMRON has revised its corporate principles so that it is more easily translated into action.

Constantly striving to resolve societal issues by quickly grasping changes in society and by conducting business based on its corporate principles, OMRON continues to contribute to social development and improving people's lives.
OMRON has enhanced its corporate value up to this point in time by creating new demand and continually engaging in business that society needs.

* About "Value Generation 2020"
"Value Generation 2020" ("VG2020") is a long-term strategy that OMRON established in 2011. Adopting a path to growth based on the two perspectives of "Globe" and "Earth", "VG2020" aims to achieve three goals by the year 2020, including total sales of over 1 trillion yen. Specifically, the long-term strategy "VG2020" was established in 2011 with the following goals: worldwide business value creation in terms of both quality and quantity, total sales of over 1 trillion yen, and an operating profit rate of 15%. The years 2011 through 2013 represent the "Globe Stage" and the years 2014 through 2020 represent the "Earth Stage".

Revised Corporate principles

The following revisions have been made to the corporate vision.

  1. We simplified by changing "Corporate Core Value" to "Mission" and "Management Principles" (definitions of important values) to "Values." We have also added the word "Our" in front of "Mission" and "Values" to create stronger personal commitment.
  2. We revised the OMRON Principles into Our Mission and Our Values, each with a simple two-line format.
  3. "Our Mission" utilizes the words of the familiar corporate motto.
  4. We kept the three phrases from Management Principles and used it for Our Values. We changed the order of "Innovation Driven by Social Needs" and "Challenging Ourselves" to correctly communicate that we must challenge ourselves to create innovation. We decided to use Unceasing Commitment to "Challenging Ourselves" in the Guiding Principles for Action to express a stronger commitment to challenge.
  5. We added explanatory sentences to the three of our Values statements for our better understanding and action. These sentences emphasize a personal and ongoing commitment to Our Values.
