OMRON Adds Technical Glossary to Industrial Automation Global Website

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMarch 19, 2008

KYOTO, Japan - OMRON Corporation's (TOKYO: 6645; ADR: OMRNY) industrial automation business (IAB) recently added a glossary of technical terms related to control devices and industrial automation systems to its global website. The “Glossary of Industrial Automation” can be accessed through the following URL: http://www.ia.omron.com/support/glossary/index.html

Terms in the glossary have been arranged in alphabetical order and by product group to enhance ease of use. In addition, technical documents and other reference materials including the site’s FAQ now feature hyperlinks that allow users to find the meaning of technical terms without having to first access the glossary.

Previously, IAB relied on printed materials such as catalogues and manuals when explaining unique product functions/features and related terminology to customers. However, the large number of terms used to describe products and production processes meant that customers were frequently referring to product manuals, contacting manufacturers and sales outlets for additional information, and attending seminars on terminology by control device manufacturers.

The new glossary aims to relieve this burden by providing instant access to a wealth of manufacturing terminology. As a reference tool for young engineers and local training programs alike, IAB expects that the glossary will be an important resource for overseas production sites and for the ever increasing number of sites with multi-language operations, and in turn, the global manufacturing industry.

As of March 2008, the glossary contained approximately 500 terms. Going forward, IAB will continue to improve the glossary by increasing the number of terms, adding synonyms for existing terms and enhancing the site’s search function. IAB also plans to develop a multi-language glossary that includes high-demand languages such as Japanese and Chinese.
