OMRON developed 3D-LiDAR for front long range with a detection distance of 150 m or more

OMRON Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Aichi Prefecture, Komaki City, President: Katsuhiro Wada) announced the global release in September of its 3D-LiDAR* for front long range.

We realized twice the detection distance, 150 m or more, while maintaining the vertical high resolution at the same level which is the characteristic of the around short range 3D-LiDAR announced last October. In addition, in order to improve detection performance in front long range, the horizontal resolution of the central area is doubled.

This increased the ability to recognize not only distant obstacles (four-wheeled vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles, pedestrians, etc.) that are required for autonomous traveling at high speed but also low obstacles (curbs, falling objects, etc.) on the road surface and road surface shapes (inclination, irregularities Etc.) . Classification accuracy is the same as for around short range.

In addition, this 3D-LiDAR has commonized the product size, internal mechanisms except optical components, and most software with 3D-LiDAR for around short range. This makes possible to consider efficiently the number of mounted 3D-LiDARs and their mounting locations according to the applications of autonomous driving vehicles (AD vehicles) and advanced driver-assistance system vehicles (ADAS vehicles).

3D-LiDAR will contribute to realizing highly reliable automatic driving and advanced driving support suitable for various road environments around the world because it can detect various road surfaces and obstacles in front of the vehicle and around the vehicle essential for autonomous driving with wide field of view and high resolution.
