OMRON Included in the "2019 Health & Productivity Stock Selection"

February 22, 2019

OMRON Corporation (HQ: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto. CEO: Yoshihito Yamada) has been selected, for the first time, for inclusion in the 2019 Health & Productivity Stock Selection, which is jointly selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE).

Under the Health & Productivity Stock Selection program, companies are selected from within TSE-listed enterprises engaging in a health and productivity management program in which they focus on and strategically carry out efforts with regard to their employees' health from a management perspective. OMRON has been selected in recognition of its ongoing efforts in this regard, including the formulation of the OMRON Health Management Declaration, inclusion of "Improving awareness of wellness management" in one of the sustainability goals linked to its medium- and long-term management plans, and leadership that top management has shown in expediting these initiatives.

For us to continue creating innovations and offering solutions to new social issues, we at OMRON believe that it is essential to maintain the vitality of diverse talents while enhancing their potential. With the belief that employees' health is one of the key factors to this end, we formulated the OMRON Health Management Declaration in July 2017 to promote health management within the Group. In the OMRON Health White Paper, which has been compiled annually since fiscal 2017, we aim to increase employees' awareness of their health by "visualizing" the conditions of their health. We are also working to raise employees' health consciousness and encourage them to change their behaviors by designating "Boost5," five key areas of physical and mental health (Exercise, Sleep, Mental Health, Nutrition, and Smoking).

In order to accelerate "innovation driven by social needs," which forms part of the OMRON Principles, we will further expedite health management, which helps create an environment in which employees can maintain a good work-life balance, work happily every day, and feel encouraged to take on challenges without being afraid of failing.

About "Boost5"

c-0221_a.jpgWe have selected five factors that are directly linked to our quality of life, namely, "Exercise," "Sleep," "Mental Health," "Nutrition," and "Smoking." Collectively referred to as "Boost5," these behavioral objectives not only prevent and improve illness and help us focus while at work, but also allow us to lead a fulfilled private life. The Boost5 has an associated two-part program: organization of events that are designed to promote the health initiative and development of an environment that leads employees to take health actions without being conscious of them. In July 2017, the program was kicked off with the sleep improvement initiative, distributing a wearable fitness tracker that measures the amount of activity and the sleeping condition to those who wanted one. By organizing events to visualize employees' daily sleep data, together with education on sleep, we were able to encourage them to change the way they think and act. In the nutrition enrichment initiative, we collaborated with company cafeterias and external contractors in staging events on such topics as low sugar foods and intestinal health in fiscal 2017 and fiscal 2018, respectively, thus developing a favorable work environment. To encourage employees to "Exercise," we continue to support "OMWALK," a walking event for all employees that began in fiscal 2011, as part of the initiatives for health management, thus making continued efforts to provide employees with a trigger to form and maintain health practices through such events. For the mental health improvement initiative, we oblige all employees to take e-learning courses that help them to understand their cognitive tendencies and to practice self-care. In these ways, we are taking approaches that fit each theme. We are currently preparing for the smoking abstinence initiative for the scheduled launch in the next fiscal year, thus ultimately addressing all five themes individually.
