News Investment in Rehab for JAPAN INC.

OMRON VENTURES CO., LTD. (HQ: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tomoko Inoue; hereinafter, “OVC”) is pleased to announce that it has made an investment in Rehab for JAPAN INC. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Ryo Okubo; here in after, “Rehab”), a provider of software that helps to reduce the on-site burden of rehabilitation service providers, via its OVC II Investment Limited Partnership.

A survey by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (MHLW)*1 indicates that in 2020, the number of persons certified as needing long-term care increased by 130,000 from the previous year to approximately 6.8 million, a number that it expects will trend further upward. As such, it is estimated that 2.8 million professional long-term caregivers will be needed by 2040, making it imperative to secure a stable source of professional long-term caregivers and improve their work environment.

Guided by the corporate mission of “Hope and delight for elder care” Rehab offers cloud-based software Rehaplan. It is a cloud-based functional training (rehabilitation) software for adult day care center, with which anyone can easily execute effective functional training for senior people. With Rehaplan, not only therapist but also care staffs can automatically propose best rehabilitation plan and training for each, based on 2,200 combinations of objectives and exercise programs. Rehaplan also supports operational works related to functional training, which reduces the burden on the staffs at adult day care center.

Through the investment in Rehab, which is driving a shift toward automation in the long-term care field, OVC aims to realize the extension of healthy life expectancy, one of the social issues OMRON seeks to resolve, by jointly promoting preventive long-term care services in the form of self-reliance support, which is geared toward improving vital functions of the elderly so that they can play active roles in society.
