OMRON Corporation announced today that it received the SDGs Strategy / Economic Value Award at the Nikkei SDGs Management Grand Prix, which was held for the first time this fiscal year under the sponsorship of Nikkei Inc.

The objective of this henceforth annual award is to commend companies who have successfully enhanced their corporate value by tackling social, economic, and environmental issues through their business by linking the SDGs to management, based on the results of the "Nikkei SDGs Management Survey," a major survey organized by Nikkei Inc., to achieve SDGs.

A recipient of the SDGs Strategy / Economic Value Award is determined based on the comprehensive evaluation of: "Policy", "Reporting and Communication", "Promotion Systems and Internal Penetration", "Services via Business", and "Business Performance". Since its foundation, OMRON has based its management on and upheld the OMRON Principles under the mission of "improving lives and contributing to a better society through its businesses," which is derived from the belief that a business should create value for society through its key practices. The Award has been granted in recognition of OMRON's Group-wide endeavors in this regard.

OMRON has been presented the SDGs Strategy / Economic Value Award chiefly due to the following reasons:

  1. 1. Contributions to social development through its business by playing its roles as a public organ of society.
  2. 2. Inclusion of third-party Sustainability Evaluation*1 as a parameter for the medium- to long-term performance-linked compensation of Compensation Policy for Directors from fiscal 2017.
  3. 3. Focusing on improving lives and contributing to a better society through its business since its foundation. (Particularly, in the three domains of factory automation, healthcare, and social solutions)

In the future as well, while continuing to take into account for economic, environmental, and social factors in all of its activities, OMRON will aim to link its business opportunities to both the attainment of a sustainable society and the enhancement of sustainable corporate values.

*1 Sustainability Evaluation
