OMRON established the Group’s Environmental Policy in 1996 and its environmental management vision entitled "Green OMRON 21" in 2002. Based on this policy and vision, OMRON has promoted environmental management practices centered on lessening the negative impact of its business activities on the environment. Efforts were mainly concentrated on reducing total CO₂ emissions and amount of waste associated with business activities in Japan.

With OMRON Group’s new "Green OMRON 2020" vision, OMRON is determined to create and supply products and services that help reduce environmental loads, keeping in line with its core value of "working for the benefit of society." By doing so, OMRON aims to further advance environmental management in order to contribute to creating a sustainable resource-recycled society.

The Environmental Policy states the philosophy behind OMRON Group’s "Green OMRON 2020" environmental vision.

• Environmental Policy

In the 1990s, OMRON began to address environmental issues by working to reduce the use of energy and resources at its office and factories in Japan. In 2002, OMRON set forth its long-term environmental targets, gradually expanding its efforts to reduce environmental loads to include OMRON Group sites outside Japan. At present, the OMRON Group is striving to achieve its "Green OMRON 2020" environmental targets set for fiscal 2020.

• 1.Improve carbon productivity (global sales / CO₂ emissions from global production sites)
    by 30% compared to fiscal 2010 level on a global basis
• 2.Contribute to providing useful products and services for society

Before fiscal 2010, OMRON had concentrated on reducing the direct negative impact of its business activities in Japan on the environment. But OMRON also recognizes the usage of energy and resources for suppliers’ business activities, in the product distribution stage and during product/service use by customers. Based on this awareness, "Green OMRON 2020" will guide OMRON’s efforts to reduce the environmental loads of its entire supply chain. Moreover, OMRON is aware of the importance of promoting efforts to lessen the environmental loads of its global business activities. Therefore, "Green OMRON 2020" aims to environmental management system for the acquisition of ISO 14001 certification at all main sites across the world, as well as for multi-site ISO registration.

OMRON implements activities related to six key areas, each with specific goals for fulfilling the "Green OMRON 2020" vision.

		Strive to minimize input of energy/resources for business activities, while promoting recycling/reuse for reduction of waste.				Offer customers environmentally warranted products that help reduce negative environmental impact throughout their life cycle.
		Assess environmental impact of the entire supply chain ranging from procurement of raw materials to production, sales and distribution, and strive to reduce its negative impact on the environment.				Expand acquisition of ISO 14001 certification and establish a multi-site ISO registration system, while reducing environmental risk and ensuring legal/regulatory compliance.
		Promote environmental education and awareness-raising activities to encourage all employees to heighten their ecological awareness and upgrade the level of environmental preservation activities they are involved with.				Proactively release information on OMRON’s environmental activities and results and promote social and community contributions.
