OMRON had a discussion with the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Japan about AI technology.

On May 18th, members of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Japan (Christel SCHALDEMOSE, member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Delegation) visited OMRON Corporation in Kyoto for discussions on AI technology with OMRON SINIC X corporation (OSX)*1, which has established international presence in the AI field*2*3. The European Union (EU) has undertaken advanced approaches that consider human rights with respect to the technology, such as implementing the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and use regulations for the ChatGPT in Italy.

Masaki SUWA (Executive Officer, Senior General Manager, Technology and Intellectual Property H.Q., OMRON and President and CEO, OSX) introduced the SINIC theory as the compass for OMRON, and the mission of OSX. Yoshitaka USHIKU (Research Organizer and Principal Investigator, OSX) introduced the latest research achievements and ongoing projects in the fields of AI and robotics.

During the discussions, there were significant interests in OMRON窶冱 perspective on AI and its cutting-edge research activities in the field of AI. For example, the trends in cybersecurity within offices and factories, perspectives on a balance between AI regulations for R&D and economic activities, inquiries about the approach to selecting research themes at OSX and the skill sets of researchers, and so on.

Discussions

OSX is committed to creating innovative AI technologies through backcasting from the near future design for the realization of "Human-Machine Harmony" where machines bring out human creativity.
