Smart sensors enabling safe and sustainable sanitation

According to the United Nations 892 million people across the world continue to practice open defecation. This alarming fact also highlights the fact that these many people are living in unsafe and unhealthy conditions that pose a major threat to their lives. A world power like India is also striving hard to increase awareness around safe sanitation practices and investing a lot in building public toilet infrastructure. However, building toilets is just one part of enabling safe sanitation and emphasis must be given on keeping the toilets clean and encouraging judicious use of water to fulfill the sustainability aspect.
