OMRON Completes Acquisition of Sentech

July 3, 2017

OMRON Corporation (Headquarters: Shimogyo-Ku, Kyoto; President and CEO: Yoshihito Yamada) today announced it has completed its acquisition of Sentech Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Ebina, Kanagawa; hereinafter referred to as "ST"). ST is a leading industrial camera maker offering a comprehensive range of cameras. ST's advanced camera design technology has enabled compact design, high speed, and superb image quality.

Starting today, ST, renamed OMRON Sentech Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as OSE), will work to develop ultracompact, high-definition smart cameras that can be easily installed virtually anywhere. OSE can achieve this by combining its technology for designing compact, high-resolution, and high-speed cameras with OMRON's high-speed, high-accuracy image processing technology. This will also help OSE develop ultracompact cameras for use in pick-and-place robot arms.

The need to implement advanced automation in manufacturing processes is on the rise, especially for those processes which have previously relied on human vision. To respond to this need, OSE will also establish a new automation technology that frees operators from demanding visual inspection tasks. At the same time, efforts will be focused on exploiting new markets by developing such applications as using robots to reduce labor in the assembly process; integrating optical sensors in simplified camera configurations; and creating individual product management systems for product quality traceability.
