OMRON to Release Redesigned E5GN, Smallest Member of Bestselling E5_N Series of Temperature Controllers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEOctober 1, 2009

okyo, Japan – OMRON Corporation (TOKYO: 6645, ADR: OMRNY) today launched the redesigned E5GN temperature controller, the smallest controller (DIN 48 x 24 mm) in the bestselling E5_N series of temperature controllers, to global markets. 1 <Images>

Since the E5_N series was first introduced in 1998, the line-up has retained its fundamental strengths, while product features have evolved in response to the needs of our onsite customers. The series has achieved worldwide sales of three million units to date.

The E5_N series was developed around the concept of "onsite simplicity." It features easy model selection, operation and maintenance, which are crucial to achieving smooth onsite operations.

The E5GN features a display that reliably notifies the operator of current conditions, various functions that reduce the time required for settings and adjustments, reliable designs that reduce maintenance, and various services all aimed at ensuring simplicity in temperature control for all production sites.

The E5_N series comprises two functional variations: basic models that provide excellent cost/performance and general applicability, and advanced models for applications that require superior performance and functionality.

The E5GN released today is a basic model. Adopting the "onsite simplicity" concept of the series, its compact size of DIN 48 x 24 mm allows for flexibility in installation locations.

With the addition of the compact G size (DIN 48 x 24 mm), the E5—N series now provides a selection of four sizes, also including the A size (DIN 96 x 96 mm), E size (DIN 48 x 96 mm) and C size (DIN 48 x 48 mm), allowing customers to select the best model for the application site.

1 The E5GN was released to the Japanese market on September 1.

Features

Readability

  • The PV display color can be changed to show the current display status through color variations.
  • PV/SV status displays enable showing alarms and other status with textural information.

Easy Operation

  • Screwless clamp terminals have been used to reduce wiring work.
  • The parameter mask function of the CX-Thermo support software can be used to hide unnecessary parameters to prevent setting errors and inadvertent operation. (CX-Thermo version 4.2 or higher is required for the E5GN.)
  • All models are equipped with a support software port on the side of the unit to enable connecting to the CX-Thermo (sold separately) for easy setting and adjustment.

Easy Model Selection

Universal inputs that allow either thermocouples or platinum resistance thermometers to be connected to the same temperature controller help reduce stock quantities.

Easy Maintenance

A control output ON/OFF counter notifies the user of the maintenance cycle for internal and external relays.

Improvements over the Previous E5GN

  • Increased indication accuracy from ±0.5% PV to ±0.3% for thermocouples and ±0.2% PV for platinum resistance thermometers
  • Improved the sampling cycle from 500 ms to 250 ms
  • Added specifications for analog inputs
  • Added specifications for current outputs
  • Added specifications for loop burnout detection
  • Added specifications for heater overcurrent alarms
  • Added specifications for RS-232C communications
  • Added specifications for two independent alarms
