Building new Internet-based internal communication media
Aiming to revitalize internal communication, OMRON launched an online communication site called "ONnet" in October 2008. Among other purposes, the site is expected to promote sharing of knowledge and expertise possessed by individual employees and departments across the OMRON Group. This information is regarded as a valuable corporate asset, and will help OMRON build and expand a new human network.
Targeting all OMRON Group employees around the world, ONnet reports on the latest activities of executives and employees on a timely basis. The site also provides a variety of content designed to stimulate interactive communication among employees. For example, it serves as an online community for employees to freely exchange information regarding specific business or matters of interests. A special section for introducing various employees’ "challenge" stories was set up. This helps satisfy the desire of employees to absorb knowhow from other departments or development backgrounds, while gaining motivation from stories of courage demonstrated by others. Since the launch of this site, it has become easier to share the knowledge and expertise of individual employees’ across the entire Group, leading to enhancement of communication at each worksite.
In fiscal 2011, ONnet began introducing the views and thoughts of top executives. This gives executives the opportunity to explain the 10-year strategies of VG2020 and the thinking behind this new vision with all Group employees around the world. Specifically, an interview with the new president (appointed in June) as well as a 6-part commentary series about VG2020 was included.
From now on, OMRON plans to enhance the content of this site with web video content, etc. by taking advantage of the unique characteristics of the web.
