Basic Policies
To prevent water pollution, OMRON has established in-house guidelines with voluntary standards for control of BOD (biological oxygen demand) and COD (chemical oxygen demand) concentrations. Each site is closely monitoring and measuring water pollutants, while at the same time working to reduce BOD and COD, by installing organic materials decomposition/removal systems in the drainage path, and through regular inspection of water purification tanks.
FY2008 Overview
OMRON sites in Japan worked toward the goal of maintaining BOD and COD at fiscal 2005 levels or lower, through control according to voluntary standards. Thanks to these efforts, OMRON was able to reduce BOD by 30% and COD by 13% compared to fiscal 2005, thus meeting its targets.
In fiscal 2009, OMRON will continue to aim at maintaining fiscal 2005 levels for BOD and COD as in fiscal 2008.
Efforts to Prevent Water Pollution
Organic material decomposition
/removal system
To curb emissions of water pollutants, OMRON continued to closely monitor and measure BOD and COD. Other measures included regular inspection of water purification tanks and administration of disinfectants, as well as facilitating the breakdown of n-hexane extracts (n-Hex) such as animal/vegetable oils in winter, which combined to help lessen impact on the environment.
